16 Amazing Black Women in Travel You Need to Follow Now!

Travel is such an amazing experience that opens up our perspective when we learn from people around the world—especially when we learn from people who come from different cultures and backgrounds than us.  This is why I am so passionate about traveling!  While I’ve been homebound for the longest time in the past 5 years, I’m making an effort to continue learning in this way by reading the experiences of other bloggers sharing their travel stories and experiences.

Here are a few bad-ass, amazing black women in travel that I follow and admire.  They all inspire me so much! I love reading their stories and learning from their experiences.  While this list is by far not all-encompassing there are many more black women creating amazing content out there, and I hope to discover and learn from even more of them, I felt inspired to share the work of these women who motivate and inspire me as I begin my own journey as a travel blogger.

Here are just a few of the many amazing black women in travel out there!

Monique from Wanderlust My Way

Monique is a digital nomad and writer.  I love her slow travel style!  She typically spends at least a month in each country she visits.  Her posts on living in Medellín helped me out a lot when I was taking a summer to volunteer as a tutor there.  She has a great detailed guide on the cost of living in Medellin, which helped me plan out my budget for my 6 week trip there immensely!  She’s got great tips for female solo travelers as well.  Right now, I’m loving her posts on Italy while I’m dreaming of an Italian summer for next year!

Julianna Barnaby of The Discoveries Of

This awesome woman has won several awards with her blog including Lonely Planet’s Travel Blog of the Year award twice! Where can I even begin… Asiyami Gold’s blog, Instagram, videos are all absolutely, breathtakingly, GORGEOUS! Her work is so insanely inspiring to me. She’s created a site with such a unique and artistic layout that showcases her amazing photography perfectly.  I am in love with her beautiful documentary “Siddüm” telling her father’s story.  The visuals of her family’s community in Abua are immensely captivating, drawing you in with all of your senses. Asiyami is truly an artist, don’t miss out on her work!

Chelsea of Chelsea As of Late

Chelsea doesn’t just blog about travel—if you love fashion and beauty as well she’s got a ton of great info on both! (Seriously, I want her entire closet!) I especially love her travel photo diary posts.  Her photography is amazing and it really gets my wanderlust going for exploring the beautiful spaces she captures.  She also has some great tips for content creators and taking your own pictures as well!

Hélène of Girl Born to Travel

Hélène is based in Paris and has traveled extensively through Europe, Asia and Africa.  I’m loving all her posts on Cinque Terre and Portugal as I plan my big European trip for next year.  She’s another great photographer of this list.  Her pictures of all the destinations are stunning.  I’m saving all her posts on southeast Asia for my bucket list Pinterest board!

Ciara of Hey Ciara

Ciara is a full-time traveler who quit her 9-5 to run her travel blog business.  She’s got great tips for solo-female travelers and shares her experience traveling as a black woman.  She has a great post sharing her experience in Uzbekistan.  US based readers, if you’re looking for some great travel guides on domestic locations, she’s got some great ones! Abi’s a podcaster, not a blogger and until recently, I haven’t been a big listener of podcasts.  I’d followed her on Instagram and I love her minimalist travel style.  Her podcasts share travel stories from different interesting people she’s met.  If you’re looking for a new podcast to listen to and share in the joy of hearing travel stories (that’s one of my favorite things about meeting people traveling!) you should have a listen!

Marquita of Tribe on a Quest

I don’t have kids, so I don’t follow many mommy bloggers, but Marquitta brings such a unique and important perspective to the travel blogging world that when I came across her on Pinterest one day, I instantly followed her.  She is a mom of 2 and travels with her children, one of whom is on the autism spectrum.  She also writes about travel from the LGBTQ perspective.
